Update 2012-11-08 Opera 12.10 has been released, which fixes this issue.

In Opera 12 and 11.60 (and possibly other versions) all :before pseudo-elements suddenly get a ‘magic’ height if there’s an element with contenteditable on the same page.

The :after pseudo-element seems to be unaffected.

A testpage is available here.

Workaround

None known, other than not using this combination. Please submit suggestions if you have any.
